Jamboree Report - 2023

What a fantastic week at Huddersfield Golf Club ! The course was presented in superb condition, the catering was excellent and the whole championship was brilliantly organised by Julia Tate, Lesley Barnes and Barbara Laird. We were fast out of the blocks on the first morning, taking a 3-0 lead in the foursomes. Solid play in the singles helped us to a 6-3 win against a talented Midlands team. Following up in the 2nd match against the South was never going to be easy, but once again we built up a lead in the morning. The afternoon singles again ebbed and flowed but we saw out the match, again by 6-3 Needing to get at least a draw against Scotland on the last day, the team was relaxed and focused. We led 2-1 after the foursomes. Then came what I can only describe as the most tense atmosphere I’ve experienced on a golf course. Scotland fought back. With only three holes to go in the last game, Julie Wheeldon struck the vital shots to seal her match, a 5-4 win and the Miller Sterling Salver for the North. I could not have asked for any more commitment from my team. The attitude and effort put in by everyone was phenomenal. The team room was so positive and relaxed. Huge thanks to all the caddies and all our brilliant Northern supporters. Many thanks to all who sent good luck cards and message’s. They were much appreciated. Myself, Vice Captain Janet Melville and President Linda Dorning are so thrilled to have some wonderful memories to cherish. Next year’s Jamboree will be held by the Midlands at Trentham Golf Club.
