The Trophies
We were incredibly fortunate with the weather for the Jamboree hosted by the Midland Veteran Ladies Golf Association and played at Northamptonshire G.C. from Tuesday 6th – Thursday 8th August.
Some excellent golf was played on a testing course with a few interesting greens! The final day hinged on us winning against the Midlands (as we were tied on 2 match wins each) A halved match would mean that the Midlands would win on a count back, so all was to play for.
The last day was very exciting with us leading the morning foursomes two matches to one and the singles in the afternoon were tightly contested. The first three singles finished on the 18th, with the Midlands winning two of them and one was halved. So close!!
(all the results can be seen on the website)
Congratulations to the Midlands Team on winning the Miller Sterling Salver.
Our North Team finished a credible second and was presented with the Tony Moffat Quaich for the third year running.
The Team gave “their all” every day and I couldn’t have asked any more of them. The camaraderie, support for each other, and team spirit were incredible.
My thanks to President Ruth, Vice Captain Barbara, Secretary Julia and Treasurer Lesley for their enthusiastic support and I feel very honoured to be part of “Team North!”
A huge thank you to all our supporters who made the journey to Northamptonshire. It was a real tonic to all of us to be greeted each morning by the “sea of blue!!”
Our congratulations and good wishes go to Caroline Berry (Cheshire) and Julie Wheeldon (Yorkshire) on their England Team selection for the European Snr. Ladies Championship to be held at BlackSeaRama G.C., North East Bulgaria from 3 – 7 September.
