Championship 2023

Northumberland hosted the 2023 Northern Championship at Arcot Hall Golf Club from 23rd to 25th May.
90 ladies from the six Northern Counties enjoyed a fantastic week which was down to Northumberland Captain, Angie Heads and her Committee. Their organisation behind the scenes allowed the event to run without a hitch.

Arcot Hall Ladies Captain, Anne Carter and her wonderful ladies were at the forefront of everything, from ball spotting to providing catering assistance, and everything in between.

A great standard of golf

The course was presented in excellent condition and my thanks go to their superb green staff.
With the course playing fast and firm in sunny weather, the cut for the Matchplay was made at gross 81.
The Matchplay rounds produced some close games with several requiring extra holes to resolve. It was wonderful to see so many spectators following the games.

The week concluded with a very good final between Karen Jobling and Cath Rawthore. Karen took an early lead that she never relinquished to claim a deserved first Northern Championship. Commiserations must go to Cath who the previous week had finished runner up in the English matchplay.
Congratulations, too,must go to Sara Spencer winning the 2nd Flight matchplay.
