Cumbria hosted the 2022 Northern Championship which was held at Penrith Golf Club 24th to 26th May.
They provided a warm welcome, excellent catering and arrangements, and a very efficient and prompt score and results system which enabled everyone to enjoy the event and keep up with progress throughout the Championship.
There was a good field of 86 players, a very respectable number in the post Covid recovery period, with each of the 6 Northern counties well represented.
Penrith GC presented the course in excellent condition so early in the season, and after such a dry spring. The Rhododendrons were at their peak and provided a beautiful backdrop to some greens. The club has been working hard over the winter to improve drainage and were pleased that the course had recovered in advance of the competition.
Playing conditions were fairly good for the qualifying round although some players did get a little wet as some blustery showers passed by.
The semi-finalists, and final of the 2nd flight had to contend with some rain but this did not dampen the competitive spirit.
